Garden

Originally designed by the late Professor Ken Durham, Pumula boasts a low maintenance, water-wise garden using as many indigenous plants as possible. This approach contributed to Pumula’s prolific bird life counting more than 120 species to date.

As in every garden, nothing is static and small changes are made continuously. Although a daunting task to identify each and every plant, we – with a little help from our friends – were able to compile an extensive plant list. However, there are still a few plants that need to be positively identified. Plants are categorised into trees, shrubs and flowers, with the fynbos section listed separately as this is a dedicated area very close to our hearts.

“Gardening with fynbos has been particularly rewarding for us, and to see a King Protea open at the start of the season remains something we cherish.”
